What is Digital Marae Wananga?

In 2020, Arataki Systems partnered with Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, to deliver the Digital Marae Wānaga digital literacy programme. This kaupapa saw us facilitate and deliver a digital literacy programme at 10 Marae in six (6) rohe around the motu.  We designed the Digital Marae Wānaga learning content from scratch, with the sole purpose of supporting our whānau to safely navigate into the digital realm and beyond.  To participate in the delivery of an impactful kaupapa that seeks to empower our people and communities at flax roots through digital literacy has been a great privilege. It is for this reason that we’ve decided to continue this mahi alongside Marae and Marae trustees around the motu. We have seen firsthand the value and positive impact that our mahi has had on our Marae. Which is the reason why we’ve designed Marae Matihiko.

What is Marae Matihiko?

Marae Matihiko is a digital literacy programme that was designed specifically for Marae and their trustees. The MM programme was developed off the back of delivering a successful DMW campaign in 2020/2021.  MM was developed specifically for an audience that has little to no digital literacy skills.  MM was created to support the Marae connectivity rollout (https://www.tpk.govt.nz/en/whakamahia/marae-digital-connectivity).

Given the current pandemic environment, we have a comprehensive Covid-19 strategy that enables us to deliver the programme accordingly, as per the restrictions of the traffic light settings and Covid protection framework.

MM is a kaupapa that is led by Māori, designed and delivered by Māori, for Māori.

Over the course of this year, we will be traveling to 5 different rohe to deliver the MM programme. Our first marae noho is kicking off in the Wairarapa. If you’re wanting to learn more about Google Suite and the free tools available,  how to navigate Zoom, how to utilise your Marae’s AV TV Bundle or operate the Marae security cameras – our team of experienced tech kaiako can help.
